Japan LA's 1st Birthday Party!

This Saturday is Japan LA's first birthday party at Cinespace! Japan LA is an amazing store where you can buy TokiDoki, Harajuku Lovers, Sanrio, Friends With You, Buff Monster, and Crowded Teeth. The owner is super-rad and buys the best stuff! The party features pictures with Hello Kitty, Cosplay contests, face painting, and gift bags! Yay!

I <3 Princess Tina

My love for Princess Tina can scarcely be put into words. It all started with that little smiling chipped tooth- he was on pins, and jewelry and hoodies and coin purses, and I wanted to own every item. Now there is the Babushkas... I adore the new Babushkas, and the new mushroom hoodies, and the new... oh, everything. I just love the art, and the colors, and the patterns. I am quite certain that Beci Orpin, (the brain behind Princess Tina) and I would be best friends if we ever met. You can buy the amazing new bag and hoodie here, the mushrooms, pins and clothing here, read an interview here, and check out the whole new Princess Tina line here.

Buff Monster : "Happy Squirter"

Yay! I love Buff Monster, and I am so happy that there is a new show coming up! Please go support this amazing local artist: "Happy Squirter" at Corey Helford Gallery, June 1-23.

ISM Community

ISM is a cool non-profit art community with a variety of different projects.

Happening this weekend at OCCA is is the Untitled Love Project, Phases 1-3, featuring artists such as Amy Sol, Audrey Kawasaki, and Lilly Piri.

Another cool project is "Little Squares", an online gallery of 6" square masonite pieces of art submitted by a vast array of different artists.

*On a side-note, it's My Honey's birthday this weekend, YAY!

Caroline Hwang

Caroline Hwang's art is beautifully vulnerable and always manages to tug at my heart strings. I have been a fan of her work for quite awhile, and the clothing she designed with RVCA awhile back is still the coolest thing I have hanging in my closet. Her new site is lovely and has a large collection of her work. She also has a few shows to note, one up currently and one upcoming.

Blood Is The New Black : Tees

Ahh, Spring. Time for some new tees. Blood Is The New Black, a super-rad artist collective, has just what you need. Here's some of my favorites by Keren Richter, Milano Chow, and Tiffany Malakooti.

((I am loving the faux chest hair tee!))

Seonna Hong

Seonna Hong has an incredible new show up in NY at Oliver Kamm/ 5BE Gallery. The show, entitled "Our Endless Numbered Days" features bears, black birds, and horses in a doomsday style, foreboding collection of work. Also featured in this show is a collection of images using paint and thread to create an amazing sense of transition and movement.
Seonna will soon be exhibiting with KaiKai Kiki, as the first US based artist in this collection of Japanese artisans working under Takashi Murakami.

"Our Endless Numbered Days" is up currently, and will run through May 26th.

Roman Kachanov

My morning has been wildly inspired by Russian stop-motion animator Roman Kachanov. I have always loved the characters he created (when I was in Japan I bought stickers and washcloths featuring Cheburashka and Krokodil Gena, and I have a set of Mitten dolls) but I never took the time to actually watch the sketches until this morning. To my delight, they are AMAZING, and you should watch them too!!

Apak, Now @ GRSF

I can't wait any longer to post about the Apak show currently up at GRSF. You can view all of the pieces that are still available here. I love Apak- their work always make me happy! I have a piece with two 'happy hermits' leaving a cupcake trail for their hippo friends, and it's one of my favorite pieces of art. If I wasn't broke, I would be snatching up lots of their new work, too!
