Tofu Girls

I discovered the super cute Tofu Girls at Comic Con. They have tees, prints, hats, and more, all adorned with their amazing graphics. Not everything that was at the convention is on their website (maybe it's coming soon), but there's still some cuper cute stuff you should check out!

Ther website says that the mission of Tofu Girls is "The mission of Tofu Girls is to inspire and create an environment in which female artists could be invited to participate and contribute to a brand that would essentially be created by women for
women."

Comic Con Pics

I'm sorry for the hiccup in blog service- it's all fixed now and you can change your bookmarks to link to www.tokyobunnie.com!

Here's some Comic Con photos as promised! These were all my favorite things at the convention...

Catalina Estrada's pony at the My Little Pony 25th Anniversary "My Little Pony Project"

Junko Mizuno
had one too...

An awesome new toy is coming soon... it's by DGPH and being made by Munky King

Look at this amazing huge one-of-a-kind Bwana Spoons in The Grasshut Booth! I wanted to take it home!

A pretty perfect Takashi Murakami by Plasticgod

Here's a photo of some of the toys I snagged... Mod Molly Blythe, the complete Pete Fowler Pet's and Owners, a DGPH Mole, the new 8" Treeson (YAY!), and the ilovedust bear dunny (I got the one too, but forgot to put him in the photo)

Immature Miniatures by Tado & Jon Burgerman

The collective awesomeness of Tado & Jon Burgerman have opened up the Immature Miniatures shop, where you can buy original artwork! Each piece is a collaboration between the two, and they are really reasonably priced for original work. There's even a few cute plushies for sale!

Tado also has some really great stuff in their own online shop, including some prints I'd like to own!

Tado has a show this summer at Magic Pony at the end of August, and it looks like it's going to be awesome!

Allover Candy/Cupcake Boyshorts @ Tilly's

A girl at Comic Con told me she bought my candy & cookies print on underwear- and, I don't make underwear! So I went to tilly's website and lo and behold they are using my artwork without permission!!
Please don't buy these..

Miss Van & Victor Castillo : Canto Negro y Brujerias

Fly me to Berlin! My favorite painter, Miss Van, along with Victor Castillo, have a new show at Merry Karnowsky Berlin. The show opened this weekend, and you can see the exhibition online, here.

Miss Van's work has evolved so much in the past years, and these paintings reveal a darker, more ominous side to her girls. I really love the pieces with the blood and the flowing blonde hair. She has a few installation pieces in the show as well, and from what I can tell, there are three new limited edition giclées available.
Her work is always surprising me, taking new turns that I didn't expect from past shows. Hair has become a central focus in her work, at times winding it's way around the girls as if it's restraining them. There's always such a sense of delicate femininity in her work- yet the girls never seem weak or timid. I've loved her work from the beginning, and I am eager to see how it continues to evolve.

Comic-Con Roundup

I am back! What an overwhelming weekend- but full of success! I sold lots of stuff, and met so many nice people! Comic Con seems to get more and more crowded every year- but this year they did a great job organizing things and making sure no one had to wait hours and hours outside in line. All the tickets are now sold online, and you can't buy any at the convention, and thing just seemed to run a lot smoother this way.

I did manage to sneak away from the booth long enough to snag some new toys, a new Blythe, and some art- and meet some new artists that I am excited to share with you!

I don't have my camera here at the office, so as soon as I unload it at home, I'll post more about the convention, complete with photos!

Headed to SDCC!

I am off to San Diego for Comic Con! I won't be back until Sunday night, so no posts until Monday. I'll take lots of photos though! If you are headed to SDCC, please come by the Bored Inc. booth and say hello. We aren't in our usual spot, but are right in the front of the first hall, Hall A, Booth #115. I'll be signing sketchbooks and have lots of special Comic Con exclusives for sale.
Be back soon!
XOXO

Summer...

is for relaxing right!? I have been so busy lately! Just looking at these totally gorgeous Guatemalan hammocks is making me feel more relaxed... I wish I had a backyard that I could hang one of these in- then I could sip Mojitios and snooze all day long!

Feist on Sesame Street

I know everyone is blogging this, but I can't resist. I thought Feist was cool before, but now, she is ON SESAME STREET!? How rad is this video!? I love that she changed the lyrics to be more applicable for the Sesame Street audience. She played at the Hollywood Bowl this weekend, and now I am regretting not going. :(

NĂĽmph

I just about fainted when I saw these tees on the Tizzaliciious blog. They are by the Danish clothing company NĂĽmph, and when I checked out their site, it was basically as though all my clothing dreams came true. Now I can daydream about having a closet filled with clothes by Princess Tina AND NĂĽmph. Look at the dresses! Look at the leggings! Eek... my clothes seem so boring right now.

BonBonKakku Fabrics

I'm not entirely sure I understand just how BonBonKakku, works, but what I do understand is that they have some really phenomenal fabrics. I *think* you can have your own designs printed as fabrics, and then they will also put them up on their site, and if they are popular, they will sell the prints as well? Maybe? Not entirely sure- but the prints they have up now sure are awesome!

Dunny Series 5

Vinyl Pulse posted this sneak peek of the Dunny Series 5- and obviously there's a Junko Mizuno in the bunch! Details won't be released on these until the Fall, but I can spot a Junko from a mile away!

I am not a huge Kid Robot fan, not because of the toys, but because of their shitty attitudes in the stores. I hate it when people act like they are doing you a huge favor by selling you something. In any case, I am always excited about anything new from Junko, and I'm glad to see she's in the new Dunny mix.

Monster Burp by Peskimo

This is one of the coolest new toy prototypes I have seen in a long time! Crazy Label is producing 'Monster Burp' for Peskimo. I love the clear burp! What a cool and innovative toy- I am happy to see something new and different from everything else being released. I love the transformation from the illustration to the toy!

New Treeson stuff!

Aside from the articulated 8" Treeson that is being released (see that post, here), Bubi Au Yeung has been hard at work on all kinds of wonderful new Treeson items!

The Treeson mimobot (designer USB Flash drive) is for sale now- it was even featured on the Wired Magazine blog. I haven't been tempted by Mimobots in the past(kinda pricey!), but I may have to snatch this one up.

There's also a new boxed set, complete with a story book (I bet the illustrations in the book are all super cute, just like all of Bubi's stuff) and it comes with a mini treeson with swirly eyes behind his glasses. Of course I'll have to get this set, because the mini treeson with glasses that I have doesn't have the swirly eyes.

Bubi is making my quest to acquire all things Treeson a little expensive!

Caroline Hwang in 2 new shows

The ever lovely Caroline Hwang has work in 2 new group shows. The first is the show 'Girls' at Open Space Gallery in New York. There's not any photos up online of shis show, at least not yet, but there are two prints by Caroline available in the Open Space webstore, here.

The second show, also in New York (no fair!) is 'Crocodile Tears' at GRNY. This show features works sizes 5x7 or smaller by over 50 different artists. This show isn't up online yet either, but I'll let you know when it is. Giant Robot always has the best art, at incredibly reasonable prices, so I am sure there's going to be some great work available in this show.

Caroline is one of my favorite artists- her work is always gorgeous, and if you haven't seen it in person yet, you have to experience it first hand to see all the layers and different methods she uses in her pieces. It's the fabric and embroidery that are always especially wonderful. She's also got a new 'zine in the works, which she says will be done by the end of the month.

As we proceed...

Going forward with this blog, I am going to be posting much more frequently, and try to let you know about any cool shows / new releases that I am made aware of. I'll also be setting up a forum for artists to submit their work for review. I do that now through the contact me link, but I'd like to do this on a larger scale.
Hopefully I'll be getting some good artist interviews in here as well.
You'll notice some site re-designs happening in the next few weeks, and I hope you like them. Feel free to let me know your input, thoughts and ideas for posts, etc.
Okay, back to normal posting.
XOXO

YAY! I have managed to post 500 times! I wanted to mark this occasion with a monumental blog makeover, but it's taking a bit longer than anticipated- it is coming though!

Thank you so much to everyone who stops by to read this blog. It's a wonderful forum to meet new people and find out about all the great art in the world, and I find it to be amazingly inspirational.

Thank you, thank you, thank you!
XOXO

Fully Visual : Designer Lamps

I'm a sucker for artist editions of just about anything... and now Fully Visual has released three different artist edition lamps. They say that the lamp is designed to illumintae the giclee quality printed shade, come with a certificate of authenticity, and are signed and numbered (editions of 25). They feature the art of Amanda Visell, Joe Ledbetter, and Bwana Spoons.

Hello, Brute : A boy who won't be good

Hello Brute (Jon Knox) puts out all kinds of awesomeness- he's got handmade toys, paintings, plush and more up at Schmancy. Read an interview on the Schmancy blog, or check out the show photos on the Hello Brute flickr. I really like the design he did for the Hello Brute website, too. It's all crazy cool colors and art!
