LA-based painter Marion Lane is obsessed with the ways in which information can be poked, prodded, and pumped in order to manipulate consumers. From advertising to political news, sitcoms to pharmaceuticals, Lane believes that when media and television do their jobs effectively, viewers don't even realize they're being brainwashed. While choosing the analog idiom of abstract painting is an odd avenue to explore these ideas, her application of theories about manufacturing beauty and the dysfunctional relationship of the natural and artificial worlds both seduces and shimmers.
