Takashi Murakami : Brooklyn & LA
Probably not a surprise to you at all, but I managed to sneak over to the Brooklyn Museum of Art to catch ©Murakami yet again. It was strange to see it in a different venue. I find the show to be so overwhelmingly amazing, but somehow it managed to disappoint when I saw it in Brooklyn. The pieces were much more crowded, and there was no natural light since the exhibit was held on the third and fourth floors of the museum. I was able to take photos of the pieces outside in the lobby, which was nice since there wasn't any photography allowed at all at the show in LA. I'm terrible at sneaking photos in museums and I always get caught.
While unloading my camera, I realized I had forgotten to post the photos Dan and I took at Davy Jones' Tear- the small Murakami show at Blum and Poe in Los Angeles. I was able to take lots of photos at this show. It was very small, and in fairness to Murakami, nothing is ever going to be as grand as his ©Murakami show, so I guess it isn't fair to compare the two. These pieces had a lot of metallic and glitter, and while I did like the pieces with the flowers, the rest of the work didn't really excite me all that much.
