Mark Ryden has released a $6,000 print to help raise money for LA's struggling MOCA. I don't know how I feel about this print- it's certainly not initially recognizable as a Ryden. He was definitely going for a much more classical eastern style, but it throws me for a loop to see a Ryden-esque girl portrayed this way.
The print, entitled "Silence" is 11 x 24 and is an edition of 50. It can only be purchased by contacting MOCA directly.
There is a great conversation with Eli Broad by KCRW's Which Way, LA? host Warren Olney about Broad's 30 million dollar contribution to save the MOCA, here.
ReplyDeleteOn a side note, Wikipedia says that Broad purchased purchased Roy Lichtenstein's "I...I'm Sorry" comic painting for $2.5 million at a Sotheby's auction, paid with his American Express credit card, and thereby earned 2.5 million frequent flyer miles.
WTF? Who does that?
