Mark Ryden : The Snow Yak

The new show by Mark Ryden, "The Snow Yak" is currently on display at the Tomio Koyama Gallery in Tokyo. The pieces are breathtakingly beautiful. I've seen quite a few Ryden shows and they keep managing to get more and more stunning. The white backdrop on these pieces only adds to the subtle yet supremely perfect details in each piece. Mark Ryden's "Silence"

Mark Ryden has released a $6,000 print to help raise money for LA's struggling MOCA. I don't know how I feel about this print- it's certainly not initially recognizable as a Ryden. He was definitely going for a much more classical eastern style, but it throws me for a loop to see a Ryden-esque girl portrayed this way.
The print, entitled "Silence" is 11 x 24 and is an edition of 50. It can only be purchased by contacting MOCA directly.

This weekend, Mark Ryden's 'The Tree Show' opens at Michael Kohn Gallery in Los Angeles. It's been a while since Ryden has done a solo show!
