Camille Rose Garcia "Down the Rabbit Hole"

Tonight's the opening of Camille Rose Garcia's "Down the Rabbit Hole" featuring works she created her utterly fabulous rendition of Alice in Wonderland. I picked up the book this week and it's beyond gorgeous. Garcia's style is a perfect fit for Alice's iconic imagery.

Camille Rose Garcia : Ambien Somnambulants

The wonderfully dark surreal work of Camille Rose Garcia can be viewed now at the Jonathan Levine Gallery in New York. The show, entitled 'Ambien Somnambulants' is based loosely on the storylines Snow White, The Matrix, Soylent Green, and Aldous Huxley’s Brave New World, and once again features the wonderful girls, deers, pills and swans that are ever frequent in Camille's work.


The show runs through October 4th.

Camille Rose Garcia @ MK Gallery Berlin

Merry Karnowsky (MK) Gallery is not my favorite gallery. When they had the Miss Van show, I was really bummed that I missed the opening, and called the gallery the next morning to see if Vanessa was going to be there again at all before she went back home. The woman at the gallery was super rude and told me she had "just dropped her off at the airport" so I had no chance. Then, the next weekend I came in and went to the show and the guy working told me Vanessa had been there all day, and had left 10 minutes before I got there. Hmmm....
ANYWAY- that's always what I think of when I get their flyers in the mail or see a show there. They just opened a second location, in Berlin, and Camille Rose Garcia is the first exhibit. I love Camille's work, and this show looks like it's going to be just as awesome as her others. Here's a link to her site, which looks like it hasn't been updated in quite awhile.

Camille Rose Garcia : Escape to Darlingtonia

Gorgeous new works by Camille Rose Garcia are now on display at Merry Karnowsky Gallery in Los Angeles. You can view all of the show pieces here, the show will be up until November 17th. I've always been drawn to Camille's work, and this show is no disappointment. The animal based pieces are my favorites, but of course the simpler pieces are amazing as well.

'The Magic Bottle' by Camille Rose Garcia

I've been reading a lot about the painter Camille Rose Garcia lately. There is a great article in the current issue of Bust, and her toys are all over town! She also currently has a show at the Merry Karnowsky Gallery in LA. Turns out, she has just completed a graphic novel, 'The Magic Bottle'. In 'The Magic Bottle', Lulu Blackenshoe lives in a gray world dominated by factories, landfills and giant corporations. Nature has all but disappeared in her world, but no one notices because of the antidepressants they’re on. Lulu (who never takes her medicine) feels an increasing sense of dread and despair, until her fate changes one cold day when she finds a magic bottle containing a map. Drawn by pirates long ago, this map shows the way to the lost world of the Peppermint Islands, sunk to the bottom of the sea 400 years ago in the great battle between the pirates and the capitalists. Suddenly, Lulu has the chance to save the last remaining wild animals on earth, but she’ll have to battle the Peppermint Man and the Great Trading Company in order to defeat the capitalist machine out to ruin the natural world.
