Creator of influential music videos and feature films, French Academy Award-winning filmmaker Michel Gondry discusses his own technical and conceptual process and his new book, You’ll Like This Film Because You’re In It: The Be Kind Rewind Protocol. He presents clips from his own films and homemade films from visitors to his DIY interactive installation Be Kind Rewind at Deitch Projects. Gondry has collaborated with such luminaries as Björk, The Chemical Brothers, and The White Stripes. His feature films include Eternal Sunshine of the Spotless Mind, The Science of Sleep, and Be Kind Rewind.

Be Kind Rewind

Okay, I will admit, I had pretty low expectations for Be Kind Rewind. I saw it for three reasons:

1. Michel Gondry (Genius, love him)

2. Jack Black (Genius, love him)

3. Mos Def (Genius, love him)

So, these reasons were enough for me... and I went to see the movie about the man who becomes magnetized and erases a video shop full of films, and then has to re-create them. Yes, I thought it was a silly plot, and the trailer even looked pretty awful.


But, you know what? I LOVED IT! It was hysterical, and so so so clever- in that way that only a Gondry film can be clever. The ideas and props are so ingenious... I don't want to spoil it for you. Go see it, and prepare to be pleasantly surprised!

The Savages

The Savages is such a wonderful film, go and see it! The poster by Chris Ware is pretty amazing, too. *Sigh* I just love me some Philip Seymour Hoffman!

The Darjeeling Limited

Oooh man, I am so excited to see this movie. I love Wes Anderson, and I love Jason Schwartzman! It was supposedly already released in LA, but I can't find it anywhere yet- the Laemmle says it isn't opening for another 2 weeks! :(

It's finally October 20th!

I'm blushing to admit it, but this is my admission to being totally-super-excited to see Marie Antoinette. The website is rad, too. Yeah, I know, how girly am I?
