Kitty-Craft : New Japanese Fabric Prints!

Been on a bit of a cute fabric binge lately... and now I have made the mistake of checking out the new arrivals over at Kitty-Craft. She's got some really amazing craft books in stock, as well.

Dave Eggers : Lots of Things Like This

Oh, Dave Eggers- you never cease to amaze me. I have just finished You Shall Know Our Velocity, and last night I took turns between the Best American Non-Required Reading 2007, and re-reading the 145 Stories in a Small Box series. I just cannot seem to get enough of this man. His writing is always so wonferfully addictive- it always happens this way, I go from novel to short stories to the non-required series and back again.

I was delighted to see the Josh Spear post about Eggers' latest adventure- an art show in collaboration with Apex Art. I can't tell you the wonderful idea behind the show any better than Egger's himself, so here is an excerpt from the press release:

This show, titled Lots of Things Like This, came about when apexart asked for an idea for a show. The first thought that occurred to us was an exhibit that would highlight work that included these three elements:

1. An image
2. Some words (usually referring to the image)
3. A sense of humor

The show never got much more complicated than that. We started with the artists we knew we had to include: Raymond Pettibon, Tucker Nichols, Maira Kalman and David Shrigley. All four of them had found a place in the fine art world, even though in many cases their work was both narrative and funny, a combination that’s historically been rare in galleries and museums. For the most part, artists who use text in their work don’t write punchlines – the text is usually abstract or oblique, open to interpretation. But the rise of comics-based art, and of Pettibon in particular, had opened the doors to new hybrids of words and images, thank god.

The show will run April 2nd - May 10th at Apex Art in New York

Fawn Gehweiler @ Urban Outfitters

A few weeks back I was rummaging through the mounds of clearance items at Urban Outfitters, and I stumbled upon a cute little birdie table. It was a little mangled, as things on sale at Urban often are, and I didn't get it. I've been thinking about how sad I was that I didn't get it ever since... and lo and behold, it was designed by Fawn Gehweiler! I don't know if the box just didn't say anything, or if I neglected to notice her name, but surely I would have scooped it up had I known!

She did a whole set of Scandinavian inspired items for Urban, including some cute prints. For some reason the prints are on sale- and I'm sure it's because Urban tends to think they have a certain kind of customer, privy to wonderful art, but it's my belief that this is not true. Urban does have a lot of cool stuff, and although their quality is sometimes below par,and they have also been known to steal art (from people like Princess Tina and Johnny Cupcakes), I just don't know if the kids shopping there know about people like Fawn, and appreciate great art.

Anyway, the table is adorable and so are the prints. She also has some really cute prints available in her webshop.

My Melody & Kuromi

I've basically been in love with Sanrio since leaving the womb, and My Melody has always been my favorite (of course, WinkiPinki, Pandapple, and Deery Lou are close followers).
I've recently been obsessing over Kuromi, My Melodys's Lolita punk clad nemesis. She even rides around on a purple tapir! I even got a Baby Kuromi purse from my little sis.
I had NO idea that there are so many My Melody / Kuromi cartoons! It must be on TV in Japan?! I always loved My Melody's family- especially her grandparents, and they appear in the cartoons!!

While looking for more Kuromi stuff online, I found an awesome lego interpretation of Kuromi on the Brickshelf Gallery blog.

My Artwork Was Stolen... Update

So today I talked to the lady in Denmark selling my artwork as patches and appliques. It turns out that she bought the artwork a year ago from an auction site in Denmark (similar to Ebay). A lady sells her "own original artwork" to manufacturers so that they can use the art on their products!

This is even worse- someone is taking my artwork (which I think she took from Flickr) and selling it to people! I am SO angry about this! Especially because the main way I make money is selling my art to manufacturers. How can someone be such a shitty human!?!? GRRRRRRR!

I am trying to get the name of the lady selling the artwork... but so far the patch manufacturer can't find her info. :(

Crappy Cat

I haven't seen too many new inspiring vinyl toys on the market in the last few months, which has been good for my wallet and sad for my heart. I love collecting vinyl toys almost as much as I love collecting prints... it's a fun 3d medium for artists to convey their characters in, and it's also reminiscent of my awesome childhood toy collecting days.

I saw Crappy Cat on the Vinyl Pulse blog and was instantly intrigued- I especially love the way the mouth is sculpted and the 6 pack dragging behind him. Crappy Cat is designed by VanBeater, and it's not out yet, but is being released this year.

Megan Whitmarsh

I've posted before about the wonderful illustrations and embroideries of Megan Whitmarsh. I was shopping the other day and came across a baseball hat featuring her yeti- made by RVCA. I guess I missed the line she did for Hohttp://www.blogger.com/img/gl.link.gifliday '07, but from what I can still find online, it looks like it was awesome! Unfortunately, I don't really wear baseball hats, or I would have picked it up.
You can see more RVCA stuff here, and more Megan stuff, here!

Mimobot : Friends With You

I have a hard time paying such a hefty price for digital storage, but I have to admit, the new mimobot's by Friends With You are ADORABLE! I think all my art files would be much happier stored on one of these cuties!
