Yoskay Yamamoto "House of Daydreamers" at Giant Robot
I've been a huge fan of Yoskay Yamamoto's work for the last several years. His distinct artwork is so original and captivating- it's like being home and being somewhere entirely new at the same time. I'm so excited about the support he's always gotten from my favorite LA gallery Giant Robot over the years. This Saturday May 17th marks the opening of his newest show, "House of Daydreamers", and from the preview images surfacing online, it's going to be an incredible show.

I've long been a fan of the amazing Giant Robot and the fantastic roster of artists they've supported over the years. In fact, they were the first to introduce me to many of my favorites! Giant Robot is proud to host Smoke and Mirrors, a joint show featuring new work by Bay area based artist Deth P. Sun. We’ve worked extensively with Deth P. Sun and cannot be happier to work with him once again. His works have always inspired and excited both art fans and passers by. Contrary to some beliefs, Sun’s work has vastly grew over the years and was featured in the Giant Robot Biennale 2 in 2009.
Deth P. Sun’s acrylic paintings on panels bring epic landscapes and cosmic occurrences into a private and personal world. Influenced by David Attenborough, as well as the Moomin series and films of Terry Gilliam, Deth seeks to create a fantasy world as a reflection of his own experiences and worldview. It is a place where cold mountains loom under the stars, cloaked figures arrive with the night, and lone dreamers struggle–a place where hope and belief still shine in dark times.
An opening reception for Sun will take place from 6:30 – 10:00 on Saturday, Aug 27th.

Heisuke Kitazawa or PCP lives near Tokyo and will be at this exhibition in person.
After living in LA for 16 years, moved to Tokyo where he works as freelance illustrator / designer. he’s worked on projects for Kenzo perfumes, Guardian news paper, music video for Yo Gabba Gabba! , and murals for Weller Court in LA, Hotel Tomo in San Francisco JR Tokyo station in Japan.
A few words from Kitazawa explains the exhibition, “While You Were Away is about loneliness – being alone, feeling alone, and communicating/coping/befriending with our loneliness. We all feel lonely sometimes. it doesn’t matter if we are living happily with family, friends, virtual friends, cats and dogs included, loneliness sneaks in like ants and mosquitos in my apartment.”
But loneliness is not necessary bad, because we can only face ourselves in our loneliness, and it’s the only way to better understand who we are. so these are the results of my loneliness, but by sharing them with you, i no longer feel alone.

Giant Robot is proud to host World Wide Panty Flash, paper clay sculptures by Yukinori Dehara.
We’ve featured Japanese artist, Yukinori Dehara annually and his exhibitions range from being touching to grotesque. Yet like most artists, he has a deep ideology behind his pieces although to the casual observer, they look like fun.
Panchira means panty flash.
In Yukinori Dehara’s words, “It sometimes takes a candid shot of the panty and the uncle is arrested though it is a shameful thing. Panchira is an important part of Japanese culture for men. People want panchira animation, idol, and figures because we can’t watch panchira at real world.” ”It is always noted in the commuter train and the town. I made figures imagining a lot of situations of panchira, so I love panchira.”
