Heisuke Kitazawa : While You Were Away at GR2

Photobucket

Excited to see one of my favorite artists returning for what is sure to be another amazing show at GR2!

From the press release:
Heisuke Kitazawa or PCP Art Exhibition – While You Were Away

July 30 – August 24th, 2011
Reception: Saturday, July 30, 6:30 – 10:00 pm

GR2 2062 Sawtelle Blvd.Los Angeles, CA 90025

Heisuke Kitazawa or PCP lives near Tokyo and will be at this exhibition in person.
After living in LA for 16 years, moved to Tokyo where he works as freelance illustrator / designer. he’s worked on projects for Kenzo perfumes, Guardian news paper, music video for Yo Gabba Gabba! , and murals for Weller Court in LA, Hotel Tomo in San Francisco JR Tokyo station in Japan.

A few words from Kitazawa explains the exhibition, “While You Were Away is about loneliness – being alone, feeling alone, and communicating/coping/befriending with our loneliness. We all feel lonely sometimes. it doesn’t matter if we are living happily with family, friends, virtual friends, cats and dogs included, loneliness sneaks in like ants and mosquitos in my apartment.”

But loneliness is not necessary bad, because we can only face ourselves in our loneliness, and it’s the only way to better understand who we are. so these are the results of my loneliness, but by sharing them with you, i no longer feel alone.

Aladdin Artist Series

Aladdin
makes products for food and drink on the go- products intended for everyday use without looking mass marketed and dull. Their artist series collection especially caught my eye- with pieces with some of my personal favorites like Catalina Estrada, PCP, and Jon Burgerman. I imagine travel mugs will be released next, featuring art by the same great lineup.

New Heisuke Kitazawa / PCP Posters

The latest editions to PCP's webstore are these gorgeous posters. I have all the others so I may have to scoop up these as well. His work never ceases to amaze and inspire me.

The Kokeshi: From Folk Art to Art Toy

The Kokeshi exhibit at the Japanese American National Museum in Los Angeles opens this weekend. The exhibition will be presented in three sections: traditional, contemporary American; and custom. Exploring the kokeshi doll from it's initial Japanese Folk art roots to it's rising popularity in today's art and toy culture, this show is filled original dolls from some amazing artists.
Some of my favorites include APAK, Amy Sol, Bubi Au Yeung, Camilla Engman, CJ Metzger, PCP, Jeremiah Ketner, Julie West, Miss Mindy, Noferin, and Tado.

It's sure to be incredible! Runs through October 4th.

PCP @ Giant Robot Photos

PCP's "...and it rained all day" at GR2 was utterly gorgeous. I can't even begin to describe how lovely the pieces were. If we hadn't gone with friends, I would have stayed all day. PCP's work is really evolving into these fantastic dreamy worlds. I am so inspired by his pieces, and the way you can get lost in them, discovering new little characters for hours. These photos don't do the show justice- try and see it in person if you can!

Show pieces are available here.

I am so looking forward to PCP, or Heisuke Kitazawa's new show, "...And it Rained All Day" opening this weekend at Giant Robot Los Angeles!

This show will feature more than 30 new illustrations painted mainly using analogue methods like water colors, sumi ink, and silk screen. He will also be at the opening for a Q&A session with Giant Robot owner Eric Nakamura. I can't wait!

I got an email update from PCP (Heisuke Kitazawa) and I am SO excited to hear that he has an upcoming solo show at GR2 in Los Angeles! I have been a huge fan of PCP for quite some time now, and his shows are always amazing to see! This show, entitled "and... it rained all day" opens April 18th.
