Miss Van "Women are Infinite"

Miss Van, Glamorous Darkness from Monsieur Mitri on Vimeo.

Miss Van shared a new video, created by Mr Mitri, and it's really a lovely and intimate glimpse into her work, inspiration, and thought processes. I'm always so taken with the bold sensuality in the women she paints, and in this video, as she describes her fascination with the graceful, curvaceous bodies that inspire her, she says, "Women are Infinite", and I just loved that line so much. It really sums up her work so wonderfully- the power, beauty, and vulnerability that can be found in images of women from generation to generation- from the Victorian era photos she prints out for inspiration to her own growing body of work that always manages to capture the juxtaposition of femininity so perfectly.

Her newest show, featuring all her lovely prints, is on view in Barcelona through July 26th, and she has a few new postcard packs and prints for the show available in the Princesas Market.

Miss Van - San Francisco

I am awestruck by the gorgeous new mural Miss Van painted with Ciro Schu last week in San Francisco. (It's at the intersection of Haight and Steiner in Lower Haight if you want to see it!)

I feel so fortunate to be able to see her work in person. I am always struck by her ability to create something beautiful on a canvas, and create something just as beautiful on a huge wall. When you get up close to her paintings, there's these little details that add so much- a slight blush to the cheeks or the way she accents the flow of hair, or the gold paint she used here on the headpiece. I particularly love this mural, of course, because it's in my city, and I consider San Francisco to be a more beautiful place because of this amazing gift she has given to all of us.

Here's some of my favorite photos of the new mural, as I was there I couldn't help feeling so happy and thankful and yeah- a little emotional- that my favorite artist made my favorite place a little better. Thank you, Miss Van! <3

Horray! Miss Van's 'Room for Cream' is now online. I'm trying not to post the whole show, which you can check out here, but it's difficult because everything is so beautiful! I don't know how she does it, but she never ceases to amaze me with her talent!

Miss Van at 7th & Mateo DTLA

 photo IMG_9061_zps8496c3fc.jpg

Although I wasn't able to attend Miss Van's 'Room for Cream' opening over the weekend at Soze Gallery, I did manage to check out her new mural at 7th and Mateo in downtown Los Angeles. It's right next to the beautiful piece she created in 2012, which I blogged about here. Check this out if you're in LA. It's absolutely beautiful in person.

Miss Van "Wild at Heart" and CA street art

Photobucket

Miss Van has a new show, Wild At Heart, at Dorothy Circus Gallery in Rome, November 17, 2012 through January 20, 2013. From the preview images she's been posting on her Facebook, it's sure to be amazing!

On another Miss Van related post, she conquered California with an array of beautiful street art this summer, and I was lucky enough to get to see some of it in person! Dream come true!

This is from Upper Playground in SF, but, as you can see, some jerk ruined it. I was pretty devastated that I didn't get to see it before this happened.

This is right down the street from the top one in SF. Sorry for all the shadows!
