Lords & Ladies

Jason Corace was nice enough to send me a copy of his game, Lords & Ladies. Illustrated by the wonderful Jen Corace (his sister), I was instantly drawn to the aesthetic of the design. A result of a very successful Kickstarter campaign, the game has different Lords and Ladies to choose from, which you assign your name of choice, plus a host of suitors (even a "foreign affairs" suitor expansion drawn by a roster of great guest artists including Evah Fan, Matt Stephens and Carson Ellis) plus a selection of servants. The goal is to build your house status through growing your family, hiring servants, and out-witting rival households. I've long been a fan of Edwardian drama (Jane Austen! Downton Abbey!) and this game includes all the juiciest bits of drama- watch out for detrimental gossip, philandering spouses, and drunken servants!

I'll be honest, I haven't sat down to play a board game in quite awhile. Lords & Ladies, however, was really entertaining, and I enjoyed both building my family while tearing down that of my opponent! I've only played with two players, but am looking forward to hosting some friends for a 4 or 5 person game- I imagine it only gets more fun with additional families to take down! Also, I didn't win the first time around... so I think I better work on my strategy!

Here's a link to the Lords & Ladies website, where you can purchase a copy, the Facebook page, and the Pinterest page, with lots of cool sketches and the inspiration that went into the design.

Here's a quick video promo explaining the game, and some photos I snapped of the beautiful game itself.

Jen Corace "Within" at Art Star

The lovely work of Jen Corace is currently on display at Art Star Philly, for her newest solo exhibition, Within. See all the show pieces, including a beautiful print release, here.

Post-It Show 3 @ Giant Robot

Post-it 3 opens this weekend, December 13th, at GR2 in Los Angeles and features the work of over 95 different artists.

I always love post-it art shows. The pieces are affordable, there are lots to choose from, and they are easy to put up- especially if you buy a few and make a little "post-it collage" on your wall.
Here's the details:

Jen Corace : Our Finest Hour

The lovely work of Jen Corace will be on view at GRSF Gallery starting tomorrow.
Her new show entitled "Our Finest Hour" features 54 small portraits of small women in large finery. She won't be attending the opening, but the reception is tomorrow night.

You can see a preview of the show on Jen's Flickr and her blog.

Apak : Roots to Fruits

Apak, Jen Corace, Justin "Scrappers" Morrison and a few others are exhibiting at Together Gallery in Portland for the show "Roots to Fruits".

Apak also has a new print set, 'Seasons' available in their Etsy shop!

A Paper Tiger

I've been noticing some really great print releases coming from A Paper Tiger... and their newest release is no exception! One of my favorite artists, Oakland based Deth P. Sun's newest print is entitled "I Will Crush You". It's only an edition of 25, and Deth rarely ever has prints, so hurry over and get it!

While you are there, browse their selection of other amazing prints- like Jen Corace's "Uniform" and the now sold out PCP print "Wake Me Up Before You Go".

Paper Tiger has new releases every week, which you can keep track of on their blog, so make sure to bookmark them and keep checking out their selection.

Jen Corace

Jen Corace's latest show, 'Told You So' is now up online, and you can view all of the pieces, here. If you are in NY, you can see the works in person at GRNY.

New Giant Robot shows...

Two cool new shows are coming to a Giant Robot near (some of) you!
Susie Ghahremani's 'Musical Chairs' opens up this weekend in SF, and Jen Corace's 'told you so' opens up November 17th in NY.

You can see some preview picks of Susie's work, here.

Jen Corace

Motel Gallery in Portland is currently hosting "Overwhelmed" featuring the art of Jen Corace. Here are some of my favorite pieces from the show, which is now online.

Motel Press Release:
Motel is pleased to host our second solo exhibition for Jen Corace. "Overwhelmed" continues Corace's iconic narrative style with nine new (larger) works on paper. Employing dense, detailed motifs surrounding a central subject, these works explore tensions of perceived versus actual danger. Each composition is invaded by archetypes of peril, such as snakes, tentacles, tsunami waves and jackalope, representing physical and psychological landscapes that the subjects must negotiate. Elaborating on her established visual vocabulary, this collection exemplifies Corace's seductive line work, compositional skill, and narrative finesse. Simultaneously bearing a sophisticated restraint and obsessive excess, these immediate works flirt with visual and thematic paradoxes.
