Amy Sol 'Brambles' print

Photobucket

I am so excited about my beautiful new print from Amy Sol! The photo doesn't do this piece justice, it is just gorgeous in person! It's my first print from Amy, although I've been a fan for several years. I just couldn't resist those little pandas playing in her hair!

The Kokeshi: From Folk Art to Art Toy

The Kokeshi exhibit at the Japanese American National Museum in Los Angeles opens this weekend. The exhibition will be presented in three sections: traditional, contemporary American; and custom. Exploring the kokeshi doll from it's initial Japanese Folk art roots to it's rising popularity in today's art and toy culture, this show is filled original dolls from some amazing artists.
Some of my favorites include APAK, Amy Sol, Bubi Au Yeung, Camilla Engman, CJ Metzger, PCP, Jeremiah Ketner, Julie West, Miss Mindy, Noferin, and Tado.

It's sure to be incredible! Runs through October 4th.

New Gelaskins

Gelaskins has added a lot of super cute new laptop skins. They have designs now by Camilla d'Errico, Yosuke Ueno, KuKula, and Amy Sol. Too bad I only have one laptop... I like all of these!

Copro Nason Prints

Copro Nason Gallery hosts shows by an amazing array of artists, including some that are often featured on the TokyoBunnie blog like Noferin, Kukula, Audrey Kawasaki, Amy Sol, Joe Ledbetter and others. They have some great prints for sale in their online store right now. See some of my favorites after the jump, or check them all out on Copro Nason's site here. (Print featured above is by Thomas Han)

*UPDATE Once Again- Photobucket has flagged a painting I posted as adult content so you won't be able to see all the Kukula prints that are available- you'll have to go to Copro Nason's site to see them. Grrrr....

Amy Sol Sketching

Amy Sol
has created two videos of herself sketching. It's amazing to watch her process like this. Last night Dan showed me her piece in the Copro Nason SuperSchool show. It's one of the most beautiful pieces of hers I have ever seen. The floating baby manatee is my favorite.

Movers & Shakers

Fascinated by Dan's recent find of the wonderful artist Meredith Dittmar, we ventured over to Chinatown to see some of her newest pieces in person. She's part of a group show entitled "Movers and Shakers" at the POVevolving Gallery. I've featured several pictures of my favorite pieces from the show- including two pieces by Kukula and a gorgeous new piece by Amy Sol.

Meredith's work is even more captivating in person! (Sorry for the flash/ glare on some of the photos!)

The Garden of Eye Candy

I've had to curb my art-book buying habit (several moves and flights of stairs have given my collection a residence in my studio rather than my house) but I am very tempted by 'The Garden of Eye Candy' by Ginko Press. Featuring the work of some of my favorite artists including Amy Sol, Candybird, Lisa Petrucci, Noferin, Kukula, and more, the book is 180 pages of pure beauty.

It's available through Ginko Press, or Amazon.

'The Drawing Room' curated by Audrey Kawasaki

A group show, 'The Drawing Room', curated by the wonderful Audrey Kawasaki, opens this weekend at Thinkspace Gallery in Los Angeles.

There's a great preview of the show on Audrey's Blog, and on the Thinkspace Flickr.

This show has an AMAZING lineup of artists. Aside from Audrey herself, there will also be work by Amy Sol, Irana Douer, Kukula, Lilly Piri, Stella Im Hultberg, Catherine Campbell, and many more. It's definitely going to be an awesome show!
