Scarves for Solidarity by Catalina Estrada

Photobucket

This scarf collection from Catalina Estrada is simply gorgeous!! There's a wonderful cause behind them, as well. You can read more on Catalina's blog post, but here's the idea:

(copied from Catalina Estrada's blog):
After visiting the Rural NGO Laboratorio del Espíritu (directed by amazing Gloria Bermúdez) a few months ago, I was totally in love with their project, it completely stole my heart.

Their aim is to promote local development with activities focused on the value and strength of the rural area and their main base is a Rural Library and Comunitary Center located at Vereda Pantanillo (Municipio de El Retiro – Antioquia, Colombia)

You can check out some of the courses they give at a post on my blog that I published earlier.

Some of the kids attending the Library live in really difficult conditions and have very sad stories in many aspects, and when I read their notebooks I was blown away by the power and strength of their words, their ability to express their feelings in such a transparent way, their connection with nature was mesmerizing and I was absolutely inspired from what I read.

We decided it was time for them to have their own products so that they can collect funds for their cultural activities and all the different courses that they teach to the kids and people around the area.

So I have been working on a series of illustrations inspired on the poetry written by the kids who attend the “Creative Writing” courses given by super talented Javier Naranjo in the Library.

First step is that with this illustrations we are producing beautiful scarfs.

YOU CAN BUY THE SCARFS NOW AT MY ONLINE SHOP www.catalinaestrada.bigcartel.com

100% OF SALES WILL GO TO LABORATORIO DEL ESPÍRITU.

I haven't been excited about a KidRobot Dunny release in awhile, but I am jonesing for some of the figures in the new Fatale series. That Koralie one is spectacular. The lineup of female artists participating in the release is pretty great, and includes alot of TKB Blog favorites:
Artists in this innovative series include Alex Anderson, Catalina Estrada, Klor, CW, Aiko, Kathie Olivas, Wendi Koontz, Koralie, The Baroness, Anna Chambers, Amanda Visell, Amy Ruppel, Julie West, Toofly, Junko Mizuno, Aya Kakeda, Tara McPherson, and Sara Varon

Click for Art Pillow Collection

The line of artist pillows at Click for Art has grown into quite an incredible collection, with designs by Mijn Schatje, Jonathan Ball at Poked Studios, Zutto, Catalina Estrada, and many, many others. They don't just have pillows- they have canvas prints as well. Check out the entire selection here.

Aladdin Artist Series

Aladdin
makes products for food and drink on the go- products intended for everyday use without looking mass marketed and dull. Their artist series collection especially caught my eye- with pieces with some of my personal favorites like Catalina Estrada, PCP, and Jon Burgerman. I imagine travel mugs will be released next, featuring art by the same great lineup.

Video of Catalina Estrada's most recent exhibition. I'm so glad you can see the beautiful detail work in her paintings!

She's also got some lovely new items in her shop!

My Favorites so far #1

Monday morning will be my 1,000th blog post, so I was trying to figure out a cool way to celebrate. VBunny on Twitter reccomended I do a 'Best of' spanning my past posts, and I think that's a great idea!

I really love everything I blog about. If I didn't, it wouldn't be here! Every single one of my past posts was about something that was inspiring to me, and I hope my posts have been inspiring to you, too!

Here's the first of two posts about some of my favorite finds throughout the last couple of blogging years. This is a SHORT list- trust me, I could easily have posted my "top 100" favorites!

1.) Meredith Dittmar. Dan is actually the one who first discovered Meredith's work. I am in utter awe of the intricacy and delicateness she is able to construct. Her work is absolutely beautiful and lovely.

2.) Irana Douer. The illustration work by Irana Douer really gets to me. It's uncomfortable, colorful, and visually stimulating.

3.) Baby C. I think Baby C is going to be super duper famous. Her work is so creative and so much fun, and she maintains a sensibility about her illustrations that goes far beyond just cute illustrations. Watch out, Baby C is coming!

4.) Catalina Estrada. I have loved Catalina's work for a few years now. I was fortunate enough to meet her in person when she had a show in Los Angeles. She is one of the sweetest people ever! Her work is gorgeous, and I am so happy that she is being recognized all over the globe for her talents.

5.) Bubi Au Yeung. Bubi Au Yeung created Treeson, and Treeson is my favorite toy. He is so heartwarming and darling, all I want to do is hug him. I love Bubi's happy, friendly characters.

Catalina Estrada Cushions

Apparently it's awesome artist cushion week here at the TokyoBunnie blog! Here's three stunning Catalina Estrada designs by Click for Art.

New Zune Originals

I'm always impressed with the lineup Zune has for their engraved artist series mp3 players. Now they've added designs by Sanna Annuka, Dalek, a new Tado (panda's sharing miso soup!) and a full zodiac series by the ever-lovely Catalina Estrada.

The MP3 players are customizable by size, color, and art and range from $99 - $249.

Catalina Estrada & Pancho Tolchinsky : Backyard

As you have probably noticed, I've been adding some neat little gadgets to the blog. From now on, the introduction to a post will be on the main page, and if you want to continue reading and see additional images, just click the link to keep reading!

NotCot got a special sneak peek into "Backyard" the wonderful new show by Catalina Estrada and her husband, Pancho Tolchinsky taking place at Galeria Ras on October 29th in Barcelona.

Catalina's gorgeous work will be layered over Pancho's photographs of scenes from the backyard. I feel like this is how my brain works- I see the world how it really looks, but I imagine all sorts of illustrated animals and creatures peeking out at me. This is such a fresh new way to see Catalina's work, and it's completely wonderful!

Here is the full description of the show:
“Gardens, flowers and gnomes become small pieces of heaven constructed at human scale. The photographer Pancho Tolchinsky takes us on a trip through his characteristic colors to visit small fragments of heaven in locations as disparate as Scotland, Venice Beach or Jerusalem. In line with his photography, Tolchinsky finds the way to connect reality with imagination, the material world of experience with the ideal world of our memories.

Backyard is the first exhibition in which Tolchinsky collaborates with his wife, the excellent illustrator Catalina Estrada, known for creating magical worlds field with colors. This couple of artists propose a refine synergy between photography and illustration, creating an aesthetical trip that pulls the viewer from reality into wonderland”

Catalina designs some amazing clothing for the fashion brand Anunciação, and some of these new works have already been made into clothing. You can also buy prints of the pieces from this collaboration on Catalina's webshop.

New Zune Originals

I posted before about how enamored I was with the artist selection at Zune. They've added several new wonderful people to the mix, so I thought I would mention them again.

Aside from the previous amazing lineup that included Catalina Estrada, Meomi and Tado, you can now get laser engraved Zune MP3 players by Aya Kato, Rolito, and Sam Flores.

If you head over to the Zune Arts section of the website, you can scroll through the artist + musician collaborations and watch videos, download wallpapers and fold & glue paper toys- even download full sized high resolution posters suitable for printing & framing.
