Kelly Tunstall & Ferris Plock "Inside Voices"

A few weeks ago we went to Kelly Tunstall & Ferris Plock's newest show, Inside Voices, at FFDG in San Francisco. I've been a huge fan of Kelly's work for years- in fact a show she had at 111 Minna was one of the first art shows I ever attended in SF and I've been smitten ever since.

I took a bunch of photos at Inside Voices, which I am sharing here, because I really wish I could have taken all the pieces home with me so I could live in this magical world everyday! This show runs through the end of this week (5/22). There's lots more fantastic work that I haven't shown here!

Kelly Tunstall "A Floating World"

I love love love Kelly Tunstall's dreamy girls, and her new show in collaboration with her very talented husband Ferris Plock, entitled "A Floating World" is just full of beautiful pieces that I could stare at all day. Centered around their shared appreciation for Japanese culture, these gorgeous works are on display at two galleries, Part I on view at Shooting Gallery San Francisco (on view through August 9th) and Part II at Antler Gallery in Portland (on view through Aug 27th).

This weekend in SF was amazing! I loved the Tree Show at Giant Robot, and there was also a great show up at Double Punch (I'll post pics of that show soon). The Tree Show went up online today, so if you can't make it to SF, you can see all the pieces here.

GRSF : Tree Show III

Oooh there is a lovely new show coming to Giant Robot SF! I am definitely planning on seeing it before it gets taken down. Here are the details:

Tree Show III at GRSF, July 14 - August 8
Reception: Saturday, July 14, 6:30 pm - 10:00 pm

Giant Robot is proud to present Tree Show III. In the tradition of its predecessors, this group exhibition will feature arbor-inspired pieces by painters, illustrators, and other creators from street art, indie comics, printmaking, design, and crafty art backgrounds.

Some of my favorite artists will be participating! Including: Apak!, Bigfoot, Calef Brown, Richard Colman, Matthew Feyld, Fawn Gehweiler, Susie Ghahremani, Kathleen Lolley, Beci Orpin, PCP, Ferris Plock, and Kelly Tunstall.


This year's Tree Show will also be a fundraising effort for San Francisco's Friends of the Urban Forest, a non-profit organization that plants over 1,500 trees a year to keep San Francisco communities green. A portion of the proceeds from the sale of artwork will go towards their efforts. For more info: www.fuf.net.

Saints & Sinners

This weekend, my boyfriend surprised me with an impromptu trip up to SF, where I checked out the Kelly Tunstall / Ferris Plock show, 'Saints and Sinners' for myself. It's at 111 Minna, which is a really great place to see a show. They have a couple walls of art by random artists (all for sale at great prices), a large additional space dedicated to the show of the moment, and a beautifully painted ladies room! (Sorry, I don't know if the men's room is equally as lovely)
The show was gorgeous in person, the photos really don't do it justice. Kelly Tunstall's pieces have an amazing amount of depth, made really rich by her muted color palette mixed with black outlines and bits of metallic here and there. Definitely pieces worthy of saint depiction! I wasn't familiar with Ferris Plock, but his pieces were brilliant as well, super detailed images of monster-goblin-demons oozing with character. If you are in the Bay Area, it's definitely a show worth checking out, and 111 Minna is definitely somewhere I'm going to visit again.

Sinners and Saints opens Thursday at 111 Minna Gallery!
Ferris and I are pleased to share with you that “Sinners & Saints”- a shared show of all new paintings, is opening at 111 Minna Gallery in San Francisco this coming Thursday. Some paintings are by both of us, some on our own; Ferris painted the Seven Deadly Sins based on Dante's writings, and I constructed some lovely saints.... We hope to see you there!

Opening Reception: Thursday January 4th, 2007 5pm-2am, 21 and over please, Free. Exhibit runs from December 31st - January 27th.
