This weekend in LA

There's a few cool events happening this coming weekend in Los Angeles. The first is Poketo's 'Islands in LA' presented by both Poketo and Islands Fold. This is a group show for this Friday only, and you can read about the event further on Poketo's blog.

The second event is a free screening of the documentary "Traveling with Nara", featuring Yoshitomo Nara, at the awesome cosplay cafe 'Royal-T' in Culver City. More info about that event can be found here. While there, be sure to check out the Kaws curated show "I can't feel my face", which is on display at Royal-T through September.

Poketo Mugs

Yet another super awesome product from Poketo- artist series mugs! I am really loving the one by one of my favorites, Silvia Portella (check out her Bukubuku blog here). See all the mugs on the Poketo website, here.

POKETO: New Tees & Wallets!

Dear Poketo, why do you keep making such awesome things, and how does your lineup of artists manage to keep getting better day by day? Poketo has some new tees (even for kids!), and a new event lined up (in Australia!) to launch their newest series of wallets. The tees feature art by some super-awesome-talented-amazing people like Peskimo DGPH, and Anke Weckmann.

They are headed to AUSTRALIA to release their new series of wallets. The artists involved include Beci Orpin (Princess Tina!!), Biddy Maroney, Fleur Harris, Fontaine Anderson, Greedy Hen, James Gulliver Hancock, CUPCO, Maricomaricar, EAMO, Lilly Piri, Sam Hoh, Catherine Campbell, Eveline Tarunadjaja, and NAILS.

Here are the event details, in case you are in Australia!

826LA & Poketo

This is one of the coolest collaborations I have ever come across.

826 National is an amazing program that encourages children to write, gets them excited about literature, and even publishes their work in a quarterly review. It was co-founded by one of my favorite authors, Dave Eggers, and has grown to inhabit seven cities across the nation.

826LA has teamed up with Poketo to release a series of wallets that have art on the outside and wonderful stories written by the kids of 826LA on the inside. 826LA held a workshop entitled "When wallets eat words" and the kids created short stories to line Poketo wallets. Poketo's amazing team of artists then illustrated the stories for the outside.

The artists involved in this project include Tim Biskup, Esther Pearl Watson, Mark Todd, Martha Rich, John Pham, Rama Hughes, Christine Castro, Leah Chun, Chris Bettig, and Keith Knueven.

Your purchase of this wallet will support current and future 826LA programming. Wallets can be purchased a Poketo or at 826LA.

Peskimo Jewelry

I've been in love with Peskimo lately- I just bought their 'The Numerical Monster Forest' print from Poketo, and started collecting their new BambooZoo toy set. Now I have discovered their super cute jewelry! You can get it at the Soma Gallery online shop.
