Flickr Favorite : Plushedelica

I've spent some time looking through the Flickr photos of the Moscow based artist Plushedelica. There is just so much amazing work! Graffiti, plushies, screen-printed clothing and bags- it's all there and it all features amazingly cute graphics and illustration work.

There's a Plushedelica Live Journal page here, and here's a link to his Flickr photos.

Royal-T Cafe

I'm sorry posting has been a little behind this week. I got chosen for jury duty for the next three weeks, so I have been at court all day and then working at night. It's been a long week! (2 more to go!)

I realized I mentioned that I went to the Royal-T cosplay cafe, but I never posted any photos! We went a few months back, and the art collection there was just amazing. I took a few photos but you really should pay the cafe a visit if you are in Los Angeles!

The cafe features pieces by artists like Yoshitomo Nara, Aya Takano, Chiho Aoshima, and Takashi Murakamai, among others.

The Garden of Eye Candy

I've had to curb my art-book buying habit (several moves and flights of stairs have given my collection a residence in my studio rather than my house) but I am very tempted by 'The Garden of Eye Candy' by Ginko Press. Featuring the work of some of my favorite artists including Amy Sol, Candybird, Lisa Petrucci, Noferin, Kukula, and more, the book is 180 pages of pure beauty.

It's available through Ginko Press, or Amazon.

Edwin Ushiro's ' Birth of Unreckoning'

This weeks print release from A Paper Tiger is Edwin Ushiro's 'Birth of Unreckoning'.

Edwin describes his print this way "In Hawaiian mythology, Madame Pele is the Hawaiian Goddess of fire, lightning, dance, volcanoes, and violence. Throughout my childhood in Hawaii, I have heard numerous reports from residents who have had an encounter with Pele. Many sightings forewarn an eruption of Kilauea (one of the world's most active volcano)."

Print is limited to 25 pieces.

Let's Hang Zipper Pulls

This weekend in LA

There's a few cool events happening this coming weekend in Los Angeles. The first is Poketo's 'Islands in LA' presented by both Poketo and Islands Fold. This is a group show for this Friday only, and you can read about the event further on Poketo's blog.

The second event is a free screening of the documentary "Traveling with Nara", featuring Yoshitomo Nara, at the awesome cosplay cafe 'Royal-T' in Culver City. More info about that event can be found here. While there, be sure to check out the Kaws curated show "I can't feel my face", which is on display at Royal-T through September.

Andrea Canalito

I stumbled upon the wonderful work of Andrea Canalito today while I was looking through the Superflat Art Blog. These deer cupcakes are from her 2008 installation entitiled 'Twinkle Twinkle Baby'. There's a great set of photos of the process involved to make these in her works in progress gallery.

Best (Cutest) Ad Ever!

I saw this video for Samsung's Ultra Touch on Cuteoverload and it completely made my day. This is quite possibly the cutest marketing I have ever seen!!

Fafi's Interview with TrashBagAesthetics

The lovely French grafitti artist extraordinaire Fafi has an interview on TrashBagAesthetics. She talks about working on her new comic book (due out in '10), being compared to Miss Van, and hints at her only project for 2009- a collaboration being released this Fall.

Fafi also has a blog, here, and you can check out her website, here.

Toykyo

I've recently become a fan of the design blog Grain Edit. Last week they posted about the fabulous Belgian design firm Toykyo. I spent some time on their site today and discovered an amazing portfolio of work!

Toykyo has an impressive resume under their belts, including such clients as Nike, Hugo Boss, Mercedes, Jean Paul Gaultier and Absolut. Their murals and more personal projects (including prints, tees and custom sneakers) are really my favorites.

Check it all out on their website, here.

Flight of the Conchords : Too Many Dicks

This weeks episode of Flight of the Conchords, directed by my favorite director, Michel Gondry, was too awesome. This song was one of the best yet. I have tickets to see them in May, I can't wait!

*Please be aware, slightly offensive lyrics!*

Mark Ryden : The Snow Yak

The new show by Mark Ryden, "The Snow Yak" is currently on display at the Tomio Koyama Gallery in Tokyo. The pieces are breathtakingly beautiful. I've seen quite a few Ryden shows and they keep managing to get more and more stunning. The white backdrop on these pieces only adds to the subtle yet supremely perfect details in each piece. The wonderful Hi-Fructose has a great set of photos from the opening. Click 'Read More' for additional images.

Images are from the Hi Fructose post of the show opening.
