Sugar Mag Dolly World

I have to admit that since Bella came home, my Blythe girls have been a bit neglected. I thought it was about time to get some new fall items for them, so I have been looking at my favorite Blythe clothing website, Sugar Mag. I bought some Sugar Mag items off of Ebay last year, and they are SO adorable. Seriously, if these clothes came in my size, we would be in trouble.
They are really well made and pretty affordable, so go stock up on clothes for your dollies, here.

There's some great preview pics of the work for this show on Bwana's Flickr.

My Little Pony Project Auction

Tado Pony

Okay folks, this is one of the best lineups for a charity auction EVER. I was lucky enough to see both the Junko Mizuno and the Catalina Estrada ponies at Comic Con this year, and they are gorgeous. Not normal pony size either- these are huge! This is such a cool way to purchase an original piece of art from some of the best artists in the world. I don't know how high the bids will go, but as of right now, the opening prices are very tempting.

Proceeds for the Little Pony Project acution will go to Give Kids the World Village, a resort in Orlando that hosts children with life-threatening illnesses and their families for a cost-free stay and visit to the Central Florida theme parks and attractions.

See all the ponies on the Charity Folks website. You'll be amazed at the lineup of artists and celebrities- including Junko Mizuno, TADO, Catalina Estrada, TokiDoki, Jon Burgerman and... are you ready... John Stamos! Hahahahahaha!

Takashi Murakami & Levi's

According to Josh Spear's post, Takashi Murakami is doing a collaboration with Levi's! A super limited line of jeans, tees, and jackets will be released.

Hmmm- I'm not sure how I feel about this collaboration. I love Murakami, but I feel like pretty soon I'm going to be able to get KaiKai and Kiki figurines at Burger King.

Fuco Ueda

I saw an exhibition with Fuco Ueda at Gallery Nucleus awhile back (they still have some prints available, here).

These new pieces in the "Aquarium Dreamy" series are really stunning! I love the household scenes and objects mixed in with this underwater fantasy world.

The Glass House Swapmeet sucked.

So, if you went to the Glass House swap meet this weekend, you probably agree- it was NOT worth the drive. It opened at 10, so I left Hollywood at 9, got to Pomona about 9:45 and waited (and waited and waited and waited) in the hot sun until I finally got in around 10:50. The line was super long, but I figured that it would be worth the wait once I got inside. WRONG!
Not only did they not even turn on the lights all the way (?) but the vendors were not great and the stuff they brought was pretty much all the leftover crap they couldn't sell in their stores. The so-called "Paul Frank" booth was really just a card table with some past season sunglasses. The Japan LA booth was probably the truest to an actual store experience, but it was mostly all TokiDoki and I wasn't looking for any of that.

Now let's talk about the Kid Robot booth. Excuse me, the Kid Robot small little dirty room with clothing strewn all over the floor. As I said, I waited about an hour to get into the venue- and then once inside there was a second line to get into the Kid Robot area. I should have known- it's their shtick to make you wait in lines to even get close to buying anything from them. Then they had a rude sign posted that listed their prices, and said "Cash Only, No Bitching". What a nice way to talk to the people who had to stand in 2 lines to give you their money! The hoodies and tees they brought were cheap- but they were so ugly, and they only had about 3 styles left once I got in there. Everyone was rude and yelling directions at the customers, so I left without even buying anything. Screw you Kid Robot- you make some cute stuff, but you treat your customers like crap!

The trip was not entirely in vain- I got a Bwana Spoons "Edward the Alligator" for only $10.

All in all, this is NOT an event I would ever go to again. This probably goes for most any event headed up by Kid Robot from now on...

DGPH : Berenjena

This new DGPH toy, Berenjena, is produced by Adfunture and available now!

Nagi Noda...

I am so sad to learn that one of my favorite artists from Japan, Nagi Noda, passed away a few weeks ago. Nagi Noda is the creator of the half-panda character Han Panda, and had a vast portfolio of extremely innovative and creative work including music videos, photography, and a clothing collaboration with the painter Mark Ryden.
Reports say she died from complications involving a car accident she had last year which left her with chronic pain. She was dressed in her Mark Ryden Dress, Chanel boots, perfect make up, and Viktor and Rolf black lace eyelashes. Nagi was only 35.

Please spend some time checking out her portfolio and watching her work on You Tube. She truly was an amazing artist and she will be missed.

Giant Robot Openings this weekend- LA & SF

Both GR2 in Los Angeles and GRSF in San Francisco have good shows opening this weekend!

In Los Angeles:

Masakatsu Sashie Show Opening
Under Fluorescent Light at GR2
September 20 - October 15
Reception: Saturday, September 20, 6:30 - 10:00

Giant Robot is proud to present Under Fluorescent Light, an art show featuring newwork by Masakatsu Sashie.
Masakatsu Sashie's works are often called "orb paintings" since he paints details from his youth as very detailed, compact spheres. Hailing from Kanazawa, Japan, his art captures the scope of his youthful activities and the orbs often represent memories that fade away from the world. His previous works were full of dark imagery, but his more recent pieces include vibrant, often colorful details such as vending machines, fast food signage, and videogames. He cites Mobile Suit Gundam as an influence, and enjoys art by Yukio Oscar Oiwa and Antonio Lopez Garcia. Currently, he teaches at his alma mater, Kanazawa College of Art.

Sashie got his start at Takashi Murakami's GEISAI shows in Japan. In America, he has shown at GEISAI USA at GR2 and the Giant Robot Biennale at the Japanese American National Museum. Under Fluorescent Light will be his first solo show in the United States, and will feature 2 gigantic paintings accompanied by 10 smaller pieces.
